In November of 1998 The Journal of the American Medical Association devoted an entire issue to alternative medicine for the first time in its publishing history. According to survey results reported in the journal, 83 million Americans used some form of alternative medicine to preserve and maintain their health in 1997, a sharp increase from the 61 million who turned to alternative forms of care in 1990.

The authors are all affliliated with the Department of Pharmacognosy, The School of Pharmacy, University of London, and the book was commissioned by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in response to the many questions they were fielding on herbal medicines from practicing pharmacists. This is not a book that will interest most lay people as it is quite technical in its approach to the topic. The book, however, is very readable, despite being technical. It is organized around 141 monographs on individual medicinal plants. Each monograph includes species, synonyms, parts used, availability of other pharmaceutical monographs, legal category of product (in Great Britain), constituents, food use, herbal use, pharmacological actions, side effects & toxicity, contraindications & warnings, a pharmaceutical comment from the authors, and references. The monograph sections on pharmacological actions summarize both animal and human studies. In addition to the 141 monographs on individual medicinal plants, the book has a number of quick reference tables, e.g. potential drug/herb interactions, listings of ingredients by their primary activity, e.g. cardioactive, laxative, diuretic, hypotensive, hypertensive, anticoagulant (etc.), and listing of ingredients by constituents, e.g. coumarins, flavonoids, saponins (etc.). The book begins with a list of potential adverse effects of the herbal ingredients listed in the monographs and another list of herbal ingredients that is is best to avoid or use with caution during pregnancy. The book is well-referenced throughout, including a listing of general references at the beginning of the book.

@Антони,здравей!Неслучайно споменах в предходния си пост да бъдеш конкретен,за да може по-бързо да ти бъдем в помощ.Тъй като нито аз,нито участниците в темата (доколкото имам информация) се занимаваме с ветеринарна медицина понятия като болести по птиците,по свинете,по конете и т.н. дават бегла,обобщена представа какво търсиш като инфо в момента,но слабо могат да ни ориентират точно какво от онлайн ресурсите (списания,статии,ръководства и пр.) ще ти бъдат от полза.Предполагах,че имаш по-широки познания върху онлайн списания с тематика ветеринарна медицина и очаквах да споменеш конкретно списание или онлайн ръководство,където си открил съответнa/и статия/и или просто някакъв текст,до които да ти предоставим достъп,за да разгледаш пълнотекстово или пък направо да ги свалим някъде и да публикуваме линк за да ги изтеглиш...За съжаление времето и (особено) познанията ми по ветеринарна медицина са силно ограничени и за да ти бъда в адекватна помощ отново ще те помоля да бъдеш максимално конкретен.Един съвет:търси във ветеринарно-медицинските (онлайн) списания по ключова дума било нозология,било симптоматика....ще ти извади като резултати конкретни статии,където присъства понятието,което си въвел като ключова дума при търсенето..Тогава,след като се запознаеш с резюмето на съответната статия и прецениш дали ще ти бъде от полза можеш в темата да изпишеш линк към статията за изтегляне или направо към уеб адреса на списанието и аз ще се постарая в максимално кратки срокове да имаш паролен (или прокси ескортиран) достъп за пълнотекстово използване на списанието/ята.Предполагам,че сега вече по-добре ме разбираш...И за да има все пак нещо като за начало ще изпиша в този си пост уеб адресите на някои от по-големите заглавия на списания с тематика ветеринарна медицина,както и достъп до тяхното пълнотекстово четене...Търси и в тях.
